About 30 minutes ago, I walked out the door having been incredibly rude and condescending to my incredible wife. As I came to my office, I began to read somethings on the Ted Haggard scandal. My heart was pierced by the incredible humily of Gayle Haggard (Ted's wife). I got about three sentences in before I began to pray to God. I am wicked, wretched, egregious, full of initquity, completely bad. Sam Crum is bad, and I don't mean that in a slang type of way- I am really bad. After begging God for forgiveness I knew that it was right for me to also beg for my beautiful wife's forgiveness. While in the process, I pray that I never have to right a letter like Ted Haggard, and pray that my wife never has to write a letter as Gayle Haggard, but I am thankful for these two people. The incredible humility they have displayed, both as one betrayed and one who betrays, has been a constant reminder of Jesus Christ. The Betrayer has reminded us of our constant need for the Gospel of God in Jesus Christ and the Betrayed has reminded us of our constant need (as Christ Followers) to humble ourselves even when wronged, to forgive and love just as God in Christ Jesus has also forgiven us. Watching this all unfold in the media is an terrible (or terrifying) thing. So many people commenting on this. My commentary is: God have mercy on me the sinner and continue to save me from my sin. I could easily have made the mistakes that Ted and so many others have made, but I am positive that I wouldn't handle as well as he has (even in his lying).
